Creating a design system streamlining the design and development process

Socialstyrelsen (The National Board of Health and Welfare) is Sweden's authority for health and care. Through cooperation with other state authorities and independent experts, they control, support and develop health care and social services in Sweden.

Mission

To create a design system that helps streamline the design and development process for designers, developer, web editors and project managers within the many departments of Socialstyrelsen.

Process

In the beginning of the project we analyzed how the design system could and should aid people working at Socialstyrelsen.
We interviewed key stakeholders as well as employees in other organizations and presented a proposal for scope and solution.

Results

Based on the research, we created a design system in Figma. It includes a style guide (colors, typography, grid etc), components (buttons, forms, navigation etc), templates, accessibility guidelines and a “how to” for making changes in the design system.

The components were not only designed but also coded and presented in ZeroHeight. Interactive components were also implemented and presented in Storybook.
