Paradox Interactive

Paradox Interactive is a Swedish video game publisher based in Stockholm. The company is best known for releasing historical strategy video games.

Paradox consist of a plethora of digital touch points. Paradox mods website, Paradox plaza (e-commerce), Paradox Launcher etc. Their digital presence was a little bit all over the place - consistency was needed. To achieve this I created a Sketch symbols library and a whole heap of templates. Not only did this help with creating a cohesive experience, it also made the design process much faster and new employees could more easily get into the design eco system and start designen from day 1.

Then there’s mods. A mod can be described as an add-on for games that hightens the experience of the game. A mod can e.g. add new looks to your favorite game character or even change the game story. I was responsible for the user experience of the Paradox Mods website as well as visual expression.

My role

Designing UX for a video game publisher is very different from say a bank or something municipal. I had the opportunity to get creative, spread my wings so to speak. I was encouraged to create something that felt like a futuristic interface. The goal was to “make it feel like you are in a game”, not like a regular web site.

Beyond UX and visual design, I conducted workshops and users tests, for instance for a project regarding ”Playsets” - groups of mods enabling the player to use a set of mods enhancing the gaming experience to the players liking.

I worked closely with PO’s and developers on a daily basis and communicated with international stakeholders such as Sony (Playstation) and Microsoft (Xbox).
